| Reading about spotting satellites made me remember how hard it is for me to look at the sky at night and see the fainter lights. Which led me to do a search for "vision" and "snow". Turns out, visual snow is an actual condition, probably related to my migraines. Most of the time I don't notice it, but if I look at any solid colored surface it's there. My visual white noise. Weird.
Time to think abut something else. I'm noticing the snow way too much. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Etsy is running this sale that they are calling a "yart" sale (yard sale + art = yart sale). I decided to mark down a few things in the shop, and offer free shipping with a few others. | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Somewhat inspired by the "spicy toe socks" (toe socks with chili peppers on them) Maddy Gaiman wore one night at Fiddler's Green... here's another beastie. This one is named Spicy. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Yesterday I opened a fresh bag of paperclay for the first time in over a year. My wrist is still not good, and has been a little sore lately, but I've missed sculpting. I had this idea while watching Hellboy II the other night, and just had to start working on it. Unfortunately, I forgot how slow paperclay dries. I'm going to have to set the piece under a light today to "bake" it dry. I was really hoping to finish it today, but I doubt I'll even get to the burnishing.
Made a pincushion out of the same brown velveteen I used for the last cat, and a nice piece of wide woven trim. Not sure if I'm keeping it or selling it - or if I even like it. I just needed to make it.
Might try something different today. Maybe some sort of simple beast with sewn-on spots.
While I wait for my clay to dry... | comments: Leave a comment |
| | After almost a whole week of getting nothing done, sewing-wise, I've just made a Brown Velveteen Cat. It is, of course, in the Etsy Shop | comments: Leave a comment |
| One of the velvet kitties in the photo I posted the other day has sold, but I have made a black one since then, and have a total of three new cats up in my Etsy Shop.
I love making these cats, and am very happy that people seem to like them so much. I'm running low on polyfill (again), so if I make anything new over the next couple of days, it'll probably be bat-shaped and red-eyed. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| I've made a few more cats recently, and decided to photograph them in the sun. Hubero loves the sun, so of course he acted all annoyed when I set the cats down near him. He quickly fell back to sleep, though. ( Here's the evidence. )
I'm quickly discovering that if I am going to make stuffed things this large, I am going to have to find a reliable source for boxes. Preferably free. How I miss living a short walk from a food co-op. Sevananda always left their boxes stacked for people to take, unlike most places that run them off to be squashed immediately and look at you like you have 4 heads when you ask for empty boxes. | comments: 12 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Just listed two new cats on Etsy. These ones are tall and slender, yet still very odd. I have a lot more of that pumpkin velvet/velveteen, so I'll be making a few more cats in that color very soon. It's almost upholstery weight, and very soft, but has been stored for about 15 years so has a bit of crushing of the pile in places. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| Got a bookshelf for my sewing room on Saturday and set it up. This is all in an effort to make my room more work-friendly, which I can see it already is, in spite of all of the reorganizing of supplies that needs to be done. I finally have a really good safe-from-the-cats space to set finished projects, which will go a very long way to upping my productivity. There is also room for mailing supplies, so everything can be in one room and easy to access.
I'm getting a desk from my parents soon (which is really an old vanity table, but I used it as a desk in my room for a long time when I was younger). Unlike my current work table, this desk has drawers, and will help immensely in keeping things from getting out of hand (messy). I had to do a lot of measuring and figuring before I found the right configuration though, as one wall in my room consists of our only real closet space in the whole apartment (one of those huge IKEA units), thus limiting my workable space.
Expect a huge jump in my productivity sometime in the next couple of weeks. I've got squishy cat pillows dancing circles in my brain.
Yeah... this is a dull post. Sorry. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
